Best Books On German Cooking

Hi folks,

just wanted to give you a list of books (helps me also to pay my bills), which either I myself or my friends use:

1. First my favorite book with a lot of easy and classic german recipes: Authentic German Home Style Recipes

2. This one is also very good (see the reviews on amazon) German Cooking Today: The Original. . Mostly all Dr. Oetker books are good (you may also see the one on baking).

3. And last but not least a book for true german food lover, with old an original recipes. This book is a little more expenisce but well worth it. Its written in german and english, great pictures and ideal as a gift: What Grandma Used to Cook

The currywurst (Curry sausage)

This is one of the specialities and originated in Berlin or Hamburg. You can find all kind of varieties on this easy to make snack. German people eat it like burgers.

To make a currywurst you just need a grilled sausage, some ketchup and curry.

1. Grill the sausage

2. Put it on a small plate and cut it into small pieces.

3. Put Ketchup on top of the small pieces (some people also add mayonaise)

4. Now finish it with curry powder on the top.

I prefer to eat it with bread.

PS: Here is a video of a man making it (first he puts the grilled sausage in a machine, which cuts it in pieces).

Traditional Way of making “Spätzle”

Thats a way of making the infamous “schwäbische Spätzle”.

Thats a speciality around Stuttgart ( where also Porsche and Mercedes cars are beeing made).

I myself prefer other methods but its nice to see this one:

Hi folks,

probably wondering, where the recipes are gone?

Well, I moved this site so the old one got deleted but I promise: The delicios “german black forste cake” , Schnitzel, Sauerkraut, German Sausage recipes,…. will come back!!!

In the meantime check out this book on german cooking. I think its one of the best out there, full of easy and real german recipes:
